2. Workshop “Preparing for a job interview”
This is what it's all about:
The methods and procedures in the recruitment process are changing due to the use of the internet and new media - but one thing always remains the same:
as an applicant, you have to be able to briefly describe to the employer in an interview why you are the right person for the job.
Digitalization is also advancing in terms of job interviews and assessment situations - which is why it is important to prepare participants for AI-driven processes and assessment situations in addition to classic job interview situations (as these are now used as pre-selection tools in around 75% of recruitment processes in the industry).
It is helpful for applicants to understand what actually happens in a job interview; therefore, we discuss the topic of “competence fit vs. cultural fit” and look at different questioning strategies from the employer side (e.g. situational questions, backward-looking questions, etc.).
The aim is to enable participants to deal with these types of questions in principle - because there are no “best answers to job interview questions” (even if job application guides in print or online claim this).
Preparation for an interview begins with a careful analysis of the content of job advertisements and websites of potential employers. We start with this topic and then go through all the important aspects. Tips on the question “What comes after the interview?” round off the topic.
Content description:
We will actively practice interview situations (face-to-face, but also time-shifted video interviews or communication with the chatbot) with feedback and analyze short assessment situations.
Content points in detail:
- Own preparatory work for preparation: Derive keywords from job advertisements and websites
- AI support for preparation: use ChatGPT (and similar tools) to help with this
- Putting your own profile into words
- Conversation and dialog techniques for the classic job interview
- Conversation and dialog techniques for video interviews and similar digital situations
- Time-shifted or “pre-recorded” video interviews in pre-selection: mastering this unfamiliar situation

- Specific types of questions in interviews: situational questions, hypothetical questions, scaling questions, triadic questions, mirroring questions, self-assessment questions ...
- Possibility of using storytelling for self-presentation
- Body language (for live and online situations)
