Self-Motivation: How to Stay Motivated in Your Studies
Are you feeling proactive and excited about what you do? High intrinsic motivation is often seen as a prerequisite for creative, satisfying, and results-oriented commitment in both studies and work. Motivation is a state that stems from our inner alignment with our personal values. This alignment makes us feel energetically in the flow and act proactively from this energy.
However, when motivation in your studies wanes – which can happen to anyone – you may feel listless. Preparing lecture material becomes tedious, studying for exams is difficult, concentration wanes, distractions take up more space, and dissatisfaction increases. Internally, it feels like a blocked state that you can't easily escape to get back into the flow. Nevertheless, most of us want to find ways to break out of this blockage and become self-effective again.
Self-motivation has various facets and is a complex topic. It forms the basis for our self-leadership and therefore requires an individual approach. Everything revolves around the question: What do you need in your life to stay proactive? It makes sense to explore this question from different perspectives, both for yourself and together with others.

Profile
Dr. Silke Oehrlein-Karpi has been working as a coach and trainer for people working at universities since 2008. Prior to that, she worked for 10 years as a biologist in the field of basic medical research and gained extensive experience in setting up and successfully managing scientific project groups. Before becoming a coach, she led a project group as PI in the Collaborative Research Center 490 at the University Medical Center in Mainz.
Since then, through numerous conversations with hundreds of people working in science, she has acquired a broad and highly differentiated “contextual knowledge” of working conditions in science, in addition to her further qualifications. During her 10-year membership in Coachingnetz Wissenschaft e.V., she was able to exchange ideas and develop together with other science coaches in a collegial atmosphere and within the framework of high quality standards. She enjoys sharing her expertise, combined with her resource- and diversity-oriented perspective, with the people she works with in coaching sessions and workshops.
