Training – Advising –Developing Skills

Who I am

I was born in Nottingham, Great Britain and spent my childhood there.

After finishing my Bachelor’s degree in German and French in Manchester – with extended stays in Germany and France – I stayed on at the University of Manchester to successfully complete a Master’s degree in Linguistics followed by a PhD in Linguistics.

I moved to Berlin in 2001 and have been living and working in Germany since then.

What I do

I draw on my 20-plus years of experience working in scientific research in Germany in my role as a trainer, coach and advisor for people who are starting out in the German university system, for people who are looking for some (new) direction or are facing important career decisions, or for those who are considering the shift to working outside academia.

Since I have an international background myself and have spent considerable time working (and living!) in multi-ethnic environments, one of my areas of focus in coaching and training is on helping people who find themselves in a new cultural and professional situation and who need support with that.

My own academic career path and my leadership experience helps me to understand the situation of post-docs and doctoral candidates particularly well and to channel my experience in a supportive way in advising them –

that’s why this group is a special client group for me.

I offer one-on-one coaching and seminars, lectures or workshops (online or in-person) on subjects such as: “How to get into the non-academic job-market”, “Surviving and thriving in German Academia”, “PhD in the bag – what’s next?”.

What else?

I enjoy lots of sporting activities in my free time and am always interested in cultural exchange with other people. I live in Berlin with my husband and our son.
