This is what it's all about:
The methods and procedures used in the recruiting process are changing as a result of the internet and new media, but one thing remains fundamentally the same: as an applicant, you must be able to briefly and concisely explain to the employer that you are the right person for the job.
Traditional “paper applications” (cover letter, resume, and supporting documents) are still common in many places, but the majority of employers now use online application portals (these online procedures have also become established in the academic sector).
In the workshop on the topic of “Applying for Jobs,” we therefore address all aspects of this process. Participants learn how to put their personal profile into words in a convincing and target-oriented manner and, on this basis, how to write a cover letter and a meaningful resume—with specific reference to a job advertisement or (in the case of unsolicited applications) with reference to a field of work and an employer.
The focus is on the job application situation of women who have to compete with strong male competition in some fields of activity and can choose specific ways of presenting themselves.
Contents in detail:
- “Speculative application” means taking the initiative—not just sending anything anywhere.
- Traditional application: Cover letter, resume, and application documents sent by postal mail—with reference to job advertisements or speculative.
- Using online portals: optimal profile presentation and effective use of online application portals – unsolicited and job-related.
- Selecting the right job ads: profile and application.
- Online job search: where can I find the jobs that suit me?
- Using AI tools: ChatGPT: what are the benefits?
- Using AI-tools: AI for CVs
- Professional profile on social media as an application strategy
- Specifics in the public service/public sector
- Online job search
- What happens after the written application?
- Basics of salary negotiation (learning material on platform)
- Basics of job interviews
Objectives:
After the workshop
- participants will be able to tailor their personal application documents to the target audience and job requirements in any application context
- participants will be able to enter the active application phase using all current application channels
- participants will be able to use AI tools (for cover letters and CVs) appropriately
- find their way around the abundance of job platforms and find the platforms that offer the most jobs for their career goals
- adapt their own online presence (social media) for application purposes
Methods:
Participants work through all steps of the application process using job advertisements that match their profile as examples and receive feedback on their work.
Maximum number of participants: 15 people
